What is Hand Osteoarthritis

Hand osteoarthritis is inflammation that causes pain and stiffness in your joints. It usually happens in three places:

o The base of your thumb, where it meets your wrist
o One of the joints closest to your fingertips
o The middle joint of a finger

There are many factors that possibly caused your hand osteoarthritis, including age, weight, injury…even sex (women are twice as likely to get this condition of the hands).

There's no cure, but there are a lot of ways to treat and protect your joints for better function and less pain. Without treatment though, osteoarthritis gets worse over time.

It’s important to get a diagnosis and a treatment plan as soon as possible. You can schedule that with Justin S. Mitchell, D.O. at The Precision Hand Surgery Center at Ortho El Paso at 915-249-4000.
