It\'s Football Training Season. That Means Jammed Fingers.

It’s a pretty common occurrence in football. The quarterback throws a hard pass and it jams into the tip of the receiver's finger.
 
This type of blunt impact may cause a jammed finger, a condition that happens when the tip of the finger is pushed back toward the hand. It can be a painful injury, causing much bruising and swelling. The momentum from the impact’s force can stretch or even tear the ligaments in your finger, which causes a sprain. If the impact’s force is hard enough, it can cause tendon damage or a bone fracture.
 
Treatment varies based on the extent of the injury, but icing the finger should be first step. Even if you're seeking medical help, ice the area immediately. Use an ice pack or slush bath of ice and water for 15 to 20 minutes each time and repeat every two to three hours for the first few days following the injury.
 
How long does a jammed finger take to heal?
A typical jammed finger can take 1 to 2 weeks to heal fully. It is best to avoid using your injured finger during the recovery process as much as possible. However, it is possible to experience swelling and discomfort in the affected finger for longer.
 
It can be difficult to determine if you have a mild or more severe injury. If you’re uncertain, seek medical attention.
