DRONES ARE A POPULAR HOLIDAY GIFT BUT POSE GREAT RISK FOR INJURY
Know the Dangers
Drones are dangerous to hands primarily because of their high-speed spinning propellers, which act like sharp blades causing deep cuts, lacerations, and even amputations if contact is made, especially during hand launches/landings, crashes, or malfunctions; the kinetic energy and impact from the drone body itself are also risks, with heavier drones posing greater threats.
Common Injuries to Hands:
* Deep cuts, lacerations, stab wounds.
* Bruises, abrasions, fractures.
* In severe cases, traumatic amputation of fingers or digits.
Mitigation:
* Use propeller guards.
* Always disarm the drone before handling.
* Read the directions for proper handling of your specific drone (they are all different).
* Maintain a safe distance and avoid hand launching/catching armed drones.
Know the dangers of drones, especially when gifting to your children. Be sure they are supervised and know the proper way to handle and play with their drone.
