The Importance of Rehabilitative Care After Orthopedic Surgery

Recovering from surgery can be difficult. And, some surgeries take more time for rehabilitation than others. It is important that you follow the plan as prescribed by your orthopaedic surgeon following your surgery to heal in the quickest, most effective and painless manner possible.

Rehabilitative care can be done through physical therapy and occupational therapy. Many times, it is a combination of both. Physical therapy includes general conditioning for strength, flexibility and endurance. Occupational therapy may be specific to therapies of the hand, shoulder, elbow, knee, hips or other where the particular injury or pain area was. Occupational therapies also include treatment of continuing joint pain due to osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Rehabilitative care can restore some, or maybe all, of a patient's physical capabilities that were lost due to injury. The goal for rehabilitation is to help you learn how to care for a body that now works differently following surgery and maintain a high level of health that avoids any secondary complications.

If you are suffering from pain of the hands, elbows, shoulder, knees, hips or other, call the orthopedic surgeons at Ortho El Paso and the Precision Hand Surgery Center at Ortho El Paso at 915-249-4000.
